The Trouble - Nobody Laughs Anymore

In celebration of my wife getting us tickets to the American Nightmare show on New Years Eve in LA, I decided to post up my favorite piece of AN vinyl.  Then I realised that I don't actually own any AN vinyl.  Oops.  I love American Nightmare, but I haven't had the chance or cash to start collecting their records.  When AN was still an active band, I was at college studying my brains out, and didn't have time to go to many shows..  So needless to say I missed the boat the first time around when their records were still in print.  Maybe someday I'll search them out, but for now I think I'll just stick to the represses that B9 and Deathwish are doing.

So since I don't have any AN records, I give you... The Troubles "Nobody Laughs Anymore".  American Nightmare covered a Trouble song on their "The Sun Isn't Getting Any Brighter" 7".  See what I did there...

The Trouble were a punk rock band from Boston, MA.  They lasted from 1995 to 99, then front man Gibby went on to sing in Panic.  I discovered The Trouble through Panic.  I'm a big fan of their first two 7", and when I found out that Gibby had a band before Panic I tried to track some of their stuff down.  It wasn't until years later when Painkiller and B9 repressed their LP that I actually heard them.  And when it's all said and done, I ended up liking The Trouble more than Panic..but just barely.

Stop And Think - Both Demos

So my last post was the first using my new iPhone 4 for pictures.  Before that I was using my 3G.  Hopefully the photo quality will be improved, and noticeable.

I haven't had a steady enough flow of new records lately to keep the blog going on just my new pick ups, so recently I've been digging through my collection to post some of my personal favorites or records that I haven't seen on other blogs before.  Stop And Think "Both Demos" falls into the personal favorite category.

I got this record from Big Joe's record disto on the word from a friend that it was good.  That was an understatement.  I love this record.  The only bummer about my copy is that the center hole is small and getting it off and on my record player is a bitch.  The first time I took it off my record player I thought I was going to have to break it in half.  Needless to say, most of the time I listen to this on my iPod.  Anyone else ever had this same problem?

There was also a Straight Ahead parody out of 300 that was sold at Posi Numbers '03.  Check it here.

Never Healed - Self Titled EP (S&F '07)

Continuing with my "underrated" band theme I've had going for these last few posts, I give you NEVER HEALED!  Never Healed hail/ed (not sure if they are still an active band or not) from San Fransisco, CA.  Their singer used to play in Look Back And Laugh, and now plays bass in The Old Firm Casuals.  Like the title says, I got this record at Sound and Fury '07.  I'm not sure if this was the first S&F I went to or not..don't remember if  I was at '06.

I really can't compare Never Healed to any other band.  They sound like if Hardcore Punk and Black Metal had a baby.  Musically Hardcore Punk, vocally Black Metal.  That's probably why I liked this band so much. They don't sound like any other band I'm familiar with.  If you haven't listened to Never Healed before, do yourself a favor and pick up their records.  You won't be disappointed.

I attempted to find pressing info on this record, but couldn't find anything.  If anyone out there know, lemme know!

Tear It Up - Nothing To Nothing

"Nothing To Nothing", yet another gem of a record that I picked up from Wreckless Records in Chicago, IL while I was still living in there.  I know that I've mentioned this before, but damn, I really miss that record store.

Tear It Up are another band that I think gets over looked, maybe it's because of the thrashy style they played, but I never thought they got the love they deserved.  I had the chance to see them once about 6 or 7 years ago, I remember liking them..but that's about it.  Sad.

Nothing To Nothing is defiantly my favorite Tear It Up record (actually its really their only proper full length).  I've been listening to this record a lot more lately.  Until recently I didn't have the Mp3s for this.  I think at one time I did, but think they were lost after one of my hard drive crashes.

Six Feet Under records just repressed this in April of this year.  Do yourself a favor and pick it up!

Not sure the pressing info on this one.

Mindset - Time & Pressure

A few short years, ago I had started to stray away from listening to many youth crew bands.  It's not that I didn't enjoy youth crew anymore, personally, I just go through fazes when it comes to what music I mostly listen to.  Plus at that time, there weren't a lot of bands embracing the youth crew sound.  Enter MINDSET.  After seeing them play at Sound & Fury '09, I was pumped on trying to seek out other new youth crew bands.  It was good timing on my part, seeing that there was a revival of sorts starting out then.

I got this record last year from the REACT! webstore.  At the time that I ordered the record, I wasn't really into ordering multiple colors/variations of the same record (oh how times have changed), so I only ordered one copy.  I did get the most limited color that REACT! was selling when I ordered, but since then I've been trying to track down the rest.  This has been hard for me to do since I don't have an Ebay account (crazy right?), and have been forced into searching different distros, record stores, or trying to order leftovers from REACT!

How ripped is their freaking drummer? (no homo)

2nd Press Light Blue Vinyl out of 200

From the first press I'm still missing the Test Press out of 24 (yeah right..), Yellow vinyl out of 100, and Black out of 900.  From the second press I'm missing Transition color out of 12, and Black out of 300.  This is defiantly one record that I would like to have all of the variations.

Rotting Out - Vandalized (S&F '09 Press)

I got this record at Sound and Fury '09 in Oxnard, CA.  This was probably the most fun I've ever had at Sound and Fury.  It was in a small venue in a sketchy neighborhood, the sound was good, the line up was awesome, and I discovered some rad new bands I had never heard before (Mindset, Take Offence, Black Breath).

For me Rotting Out's best recording is still their demo ("This is not sleep I'm getting, this is sleep that I've earned" wow..), but this 7" isn't far off.  Rotting Out has changed vocalists since this record (I'm pretty sure Mike left to focus on his career, I would have too), on their new LP (Street Prowl) their old guitar player Walter has taken over as the front man.  I've seen them play twice since Walter took over, but couldn't tell you what he sounds like on the new record since I haven't heard it yet.

Piece By Piece - We've Lost Our Minds

We've Lost Our Minds... Might be my favorite record released by Malfunction Records.  It's a toss up between this and IA's "Casualty Of The Core".  Probably depends on which record I'm listening to at the time.  And right now I'm listening to Piece By Piece.  Oh, and that Intro..heaviest ever?  The only other intro that causes me to loose my mind like theirs is 86 Mentality's intro to Life Trap.

I picked up this record from the now defunct Threshold Records in Tinley Park, Illinois.  Threshold was a legit record store, and it's a shame that it's no longer there.  Anyways, Piece By Piece are probably the only band that's still around from my hardcore "hay day".  The shows that they play now are few and far between (sad), but when they do play it's a mad house.  If you've never had the chance to see them play, make it a point to do so.

Knife Fight - Burning Bridges E.P.

Two days, two Knife Fight posts.. I think they are that good.

So for this record Knife Fight slowed the tempo down quite a lot.  This record only has 4 songs, but probably clocks in around the same time as their first 7" (which has 11 songs!).  This was actually the first Knife Fight recording that I listened to.  I picked up this record from Joe Lifeline's record distro at some show in Chicago.

Knife Fight - Self Titled 7"

A few weeks ago I heard the most appropriate description of Knife Fight.  "To punk for the hardcores, and to hardcore for the punks".  Why more people didn't like this band is beyond me.

I was still living in Chicago when Knife Fight first became a band, and in Chicago, Knife Fight was/is very well liked.  Why they were never embraced in their home state of California I'll never know.  I'm sure there are people that like Knife Fight here in CA, but I've read and heard from many people that their CA shows go over like wet farts (I've never had a chance to see them in CA myself) .  If anyone can explain this phenomenon to me I'd like to know.  My only theory on why Knife Fight was liked more in Chicago and the East Cost is that maybe the early 80's sound is more enjoyed there?  Anyways, this record rules and you should listen to it no matter where you live!
